Kendo na hÉireann is delighted to announce the annual Irish Kendo Spring Seminar which this year will take place on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th April in the Marino Institute of Education, Griffith Avenue, Dublin. This year’s event will be led by Geoffrey Salmon sensei 7th Dan Kyoshi from the UK, assisted by Carrol Tange sensei 7th Dan from Belgium. We ask all attendees to register here so that we know the numbers in advance. There will be a grading to 1st Dan on Sunday, if you wish to grade please indicate this in your registration. There will be a fee for participation of 45 EUR, which includes the cost of Kyu gradings. Kendo na hÉireann is holding a Women in Martial Arts Taster Event on Saturday 7th June. The event is free for all women and girls who want to try out kendo or iaido. On the day our instructors will introduce you to traditional Japanese sword arts as they are practiced today. You will have a chance to learn about the martial arts of the samurai! In Kendo men and women of all ages practice together. Timing, precision and technique are more important than simple strength or force. Iaido is the traditional art of drawing the sword, it involves controlled smooth movements which must be done with grace and dignity. Both arts are perfectly suited to women looking for an unusual, challenging but fun way to keep fit and active while practicing a traditional martial art. The Irish National Championships and Japanese Ambassador’s Cup 2014 takes place on Saturday 31st May in the Marino Institute of Education starting at 11am. Members of the public are welcome to come along to watch the event. It promises to be a fun day with a chance to see this exciting and traditional Japanese martial art. We are happy to have the support of the Japanese Embassy, Experience Japan and the UCD-DCU Taiko drum team.
